My Testimony

Hi, my name is Monica. I am a Born-Again Christian. I was mercifully saved at the age of eighteen on the island of Oahu. I am amazed that Jesus could love a soul like me and make the ultimate sacrifice so that I could spend eternity with Him.
Disillusioned by "Christian" men, I strayed away from the Lord in my early twenties. I was living for myself. However, the Holy Spirit never left me alone and in my heart I always felt Jesus calling me, "Come home...come back to me. I love you and I miss you so very much." In time, I realized that I did need Jesus and returned to Him.
When I married (my first marriage) I quickly realized that I needed Jesus more than ever. Our marriage was strained with many great difficulties that could not be fixed. I prefer not to share the details and difficulties of this marriage out of love, honor and respect for our two oldest. What I will say is that Jesus was my Strong Tower and my Abba Father through this very difficult and painful season of my life. He was merciful, gracious and loving to me when feelings of failure overwhelmed me. I often ran to Abba Father and shed many tears at his feet.
I lived as a single mom for a few years; it was a very difficult season. I certainly could not have done so without the love, support and generosity of my family and some friends. Living as a single parent is so very difficult and I certainly don't know how anyone does it without Jesus at their side.
In 2003, I married my best friend and soul-mate, Mark. He is a godly man, a loving husband, and devoted father. He is the love of my life. In 2004 we welcomed one more to our family, making us a family of five. We enjoy each other's company and like to do much of the same things. These have been the happiest, most peaceful years of my life. And regardless of the hurdles we face along the way, at his side is where I'll always belong. I am honored to be his wife and the mother of our children.
My favorite hobbies are gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, organizing and my newest summer hobby is genealogy. On summer days when the heat makes digging in the garden intolerable, I retreat with gratefulness to my air-conditioned home where I can be found digging around in Ancestry.com. There I have found a treasure trove of information about our family.
I love to watch period movies particularly on cold rainy or snowy days. My favorites are Lark Rise to Candleford, Cranford and Return to Cranford as well as a few others. I love reading period literature particularly those from Lamplighter Publishing as they always cause me to pause and reflect.
We are homeschoolers and have been since our move here to Virginia. We are pleased with the fruit it has produced and continues to produce.
Since the financial downturn in 2008 we have been finding it very difficult to make ends meet as prices, particularly gas, continue to rise. In addition, we have had a year filled with hospital visits, "breakage" and "wear and tear" around the house and with the cars, and consequently have incurred some debt. We are determined to get it paid off, God willing, by the end of the year or sooner.
For this reason and the prompting of the Lord in 2007, we are working towards and learning how to live more simply and frugally. We are growing our vegetables, learning how to can and dehydrate what we grow. I am learning to do a lot of things I was not taught as a little girl and master and perfect those things I was. In addition, I am acquiring new skills of days gone by that even my grandmother did not know how to do. I take great pleasure in creating a warm and secure place for my family and being a helpmeet to by Beloved.
God is still refining me, molding me, and teaching me. My deepest desire is to be all that God has called me to be in Proverbs 31 and I will do this season by season with Him.
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and may the LORD be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Forever in His debt,
