Are You Paying Attention?

"Woe to those who rise up early in the morning that they may pursue strong drink; who stay up late in the evening that wine may inflame them! And their banquets are accompanied by lyre and harp, by tambourine and flute, and by wine; But they do not pay attention to the deeds of the Lord, Nor do they consider the work of his hands." Isaiah 5:11-12

In this chapter Isaiah is explaining what is going to happen to God's vineyard because they are neck deep in sin. They refuse to obey the commandments and refuse to walk in God's statutes. God is angry as well as deeply saddened because his beloved people are not producing good fruit. They are going to be trimmed down to absolutely nothing. He looked for righteous people but what he found were greedy, stingy, addicts who do nothing but but live for their own desires. God had been calling to them, trying to get their attention earlier but they refused to listen and pay attention to what he was doing around them.

We, as a nation, are Israel's counterpart. Every horrid sin that Israel is guilty of in this book, we are guilty of as well. We are greedy and stingy buying up homes to turn a profit or keep for ourselves , buying more and more land for ourselves, to increase our bank accounts. And while there isn't anything wrong with that as a principle, is good being done with the extra money?
Is it being sown into God's kingdom, or is it being used to buy ourselves more "things" to increase our status with those around us? These people are drinking, partying and turning their homes into dins of revelry. We live to "party" and have a good time and show everyone we are doing well for ourselves! When we are "entertaining" are we entertaining missionaries? Are we housing them? Are we taking care of your own family members who are in need during these difficult times? Even those of us who call ourselves Christians do this and all the while not paying attention to what is going on around them. For me the key verses were "But they do not pay attention to the deeds of the Lord, Nor do they consider the work of His hands.

In order to be accused of "not paying attention or watching what God is doing around us" we
have to be somewhere in his presence hearing something. For instance, when we as parents are admonishing our children and are giving them life instruction and we see them looking around everywhere but at us, we say "Pay attention!" The same when they are in school receiving instruction from a teacher. They are expecting that the students are paying attention. If they see them doing anything other than taking notes or keeping their eyes on the board, they say "Pay attention!" We as his people must pay attention to how we as Believers are living. Are we living in a manner that is pleasing to him? Are we walking in his ways? Are we justifying our overindulgent lifestyle because we don't "overindulge all the time?"Do we look like the world or do we look like a holy people set apart from the rest? Will people recognize us as His children and run to us when trouble comes or will we be difficult to recognize? We know without a doubt that when we don't pay attention it is a recipe for failure.

Look at what is taking place in our nation and in the world. Watch carefully and study the Word. Pay attention to the works of His hands. I believe Yeshua's Shofar is in his hand or at least well within his reach. It is only a matter of time before it sounds. Pay attention. Be ready.

Look at what the following verse in Isaiah 5:13 " Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge; and their honorable men are famished and their multitude is parched with thirst."

Are you paying attention to His instruction or will you perish for lack of knowledge?

Heavenly Father,
I want to be set apart for you! I don't want to be swallowed up into the world and become unrecognizable. I want to live for you and be ready so that I hear your shofar. I don't want to be among the greedy, stingy, and found in a room full of drunken people. I want others to know me as a person who follows in your statutes and your ways. In Jesus' Name.
